One More Day (Bridezilla)

When women take their first breath,
they are told they have one special day
out of 81 years
that matters.
Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, and Parents
prepare them since they are babies
for their wedding day
by giving them fake wedding dresses
and other pretend bridal items
to have a pretend wedding.
Women who deviate by chasing a career
are met with cruel jokes and dirty looks.
People find it more abhorrent
for a woman to keep her last name.
She’s called a bitch or controlling.
Yet, when a man keeps his surname,
he’s called lucky.
He’s lucky to have a lifetime—
of 76 years—
to do whatever he wants.
Women get one day to live.
Men get 27,740 days to live.
It’s 2021 and we still
can’t let women have
one more day.
